<![CDATA[Film "On the Banks of the Tigris: the hidden story of Iraqi music"]]> When Majid Shokor escaped from Iraq, he discovered that many of the songs he loved as a child in Baghdad were written or performed by Christian and Jewish Iraqis. To find out more, Majid makes a bold journey from his home in Australia to Israel, countries in Europe, and Iraq to meet Iraqi musicians, hear their music and stories, and unite them in a concert celebrating coexistence.

This is an educational and fundraising film (for the Refugee Council of Australia and Amnesty International Australia) organised by the Mornington Peninsula Human Rights Group. <![CDATA[Saltwater Country]]> Saltwater Country is a major touring exhibition of contemporary Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, showcasing more than 50 works by 16 of Queensland’s most acclaimed Indigenous artists including Vernon Ah Kee, Michael Cook, Fiona Foley, Brian Robinson, Ken Thaiday and Judy Watson. Having returned from a successful international tour to museums in the US and Europe, this exhibition finally lands in Mornington and offers audiences a unique insight into the artists’ cultural connections to ‘their’ saltwater country – Queensland’s coastline, sea and waterways. As artist Vernon Ah Kee says, beaches are ‘part of the Australian psyche … everybody thinks of themselves in relation to their proximity to the coast, to the beach. So in that way, we are all saltwater people.’

<![CDATA[Red Cross Community Wills Day]]> Anyone who needs to make or update their Will should mark 13th July in their calendar as this is the day Red Cross is bringing its highly successful Wills for Life program to the Mornington Peninsula. Your Will is one of the most important documents you sign during your lifetime. It’s the only way to be certain that your possessions and assets go to the people and charities that you care about.
Red Cross has arranged a special offer with local solicitors who will donate their time to prepare a simple Will from $75. This is a great opportunity to make or update your Will! Ian Williamson, National Bequest Manager for Red Cross says “Writing a Will is one of the most important things you will ever do in your lifetime, and yet just under half of Australian adults still do not have one. Most of us work hard to maximise our financial position for retirement, but it’s surprising how many fail to make a Will. What can happen is that someone you don’t even know may end up controlling your estate and prized investments. The Red Cross Wills for Life program has so far helped over 5,000 Australians get their affairs in order with a new or updated Will, and many have confirmed a gift in their Will to Red Cross.” For more information about the Red Cross Community Wills Days, or to make an appointment phone 1800 811 700 or email [email protected]
